I hope the below information helps answer some of your questions. If it doesn’t please contact me!

Why choose custom photography?

Custom photography provides you with a personalized, high-quality work of art that brings you joy every time you look at it. It is an investment, but in return, you receive something that you are proud to display and you can share with generations to come.

What is your style?

The best way to get a feel for my style is to look through my galleries. While I offer suggestions and direction on posing I typically shoot while you’re interacting, playing, laughing, whispering and daydreaming. I get on the floor and play with kids; I encourage slobbery kisses from pets; I get to know you and showcase your unique and dynamic self.

What is your availability?

Photo sessions are on a first come first serve basis and fill up pretty quickly during the warmer seasons. My availability right now is:

Monday – Friday
4:00pm – sunset

Saturdays and Sundays
6:00am – sunset

I hope to extend my Monday – Friday hours in the near future.

Where do sessions take place?

I prefer to shoot outdoors in natural light whether it is a park, a beach, an alley, a parking garage or your backyard. We’ll decide on the best location for you based on your style and purpose. Newborn sessions are always done indoors at your home.

How long will the session last?

Most sessions last up to 1 hour and longer for newborns. Every session is a little different depending on our location, outfit changes, number of people in the group, etc. Newborns take a little longer as they’re more unpredictable than adults. It’ll take more time to calm them, get them warm and asleep. I also factor in time incase the baby needs to be fed, soothed, diaper changes or outfit changes.

What is the session like?

If it’s a newborn session that takes place in your home I’ll wander around in search of the best light. Large windows are best and we might have to move some furniture to get that perfect shot. I’ll get to know you, your child(ren) and keep things light and fun. My best photo’s are capturing genuine expressions rather than staging group shots. You’ll never hear me use the words, “say cheese” or “sit still”. Talking and playing usually does the trick. I’ll probably ask you to do things that sound silly, or stand/sit in awkward positions but just trust me and have fun.

What should I wear?

Your own comfort level and style should drive your wardrobe choice. If you don’t wear a fancy dress and suit on a daily basis…I recommend steering clear of them for the photo shoot. Be natural. Feel free to bring a couple different outfits so we can create different looks or in case something gets dirty. Bright colors and pastels will look great in photos. Try and avoid white and black though. Complimentary clothing is always nice though it certainly doesn’t have to be matchy matchy. Try to stay clear of really busy patterns or logos that can appear distracting in pictures. Some of your portraits will be head to toe so choose socks, shoes, etc. that are portrait appropriate.

If you’re doing a maternity session, open loose shirts or button down shirts and belly revealing tanks or tees work well. Bottoms should sit below your belly (no maternity panels) and allow you to move.

Should I bring anything to the session?

You are welcome to bring props that reflect your family or child’s style. Blankets, bubbles, dolls, cars, bicycles, buckets, and shovels are all welcomed. If your pet will be joining the session please bring a squeaky toy or treats to help me get their attention.

What if it rains?

Rain? It never rains in Washington. Obviously, we live in the Northwest, we have a lot of rainy days. The rain doesn’t have to ruin your session. Depending on the location we can sometimes make a slight drizzle work if you’re ok getting a little wet and having a cute umbrella in some photos. However, if it’s a complete downpour or if you have your heart set on a dry outdoor shoot, I am happy to reschedule for the next available date I have.

What if my child gets sick?

Children get sick. It happens. Rather than ending up with 15 photos of a red nosed, tired eyes child, it really is best to reschedule your session. A sick child is not a happy camper and the last thing they want to do is cooperate for photos. Again, I am happy to reschedule for the next available date I have.

When should I schedule a newborn session?

As soon as possible, preferably while you’re still expecting. Newborn sessions are best done between 5-14 days of life. This is the short window when they’re still sleepy and can be easily comforted, curled up and posed. I’ll pencil in your due date and we’ll finalize plans once your little one arrives.

Do you charge an hourly rate?

I don’t charge an hourly rate. I charge one flat rate per session depending on the amount of time it’ll take. Sometimes all things align and a photo shoot can take 45 minutes. Other times your baby is fussing and it can take the full 3 hours for the newborn session. It really all depends and each photo shoot is different. I’ll take the necessary amount of time needed to capture images that are priceless keepsakes.

Do you have packages?

Yes! I have all sorts of packages depending on your photography needs and budget. Check out my Investment page. If you don’t see what you’re looking for, please contact me and I’m sure we can work something out!

Do you offer mini sessions?

From time to time, I’ll offer mini sessions. These sessions are perfect for repeat clients who’d like to update their family photos throughout the year. They typically last 15 minutes and render 8 finished images. The best way to find out about these special mini sessions is sign up for my newsletter, become a fan on Facebook or follow my blog!

Do you have a referral program?

Yes I do! For each client referred to me who books a full session and mentions you referred them, you receive $50 off your next full session!

I really want to hire you….BUT?

Check out my full page answering this question.

When will my photos be ready to view?

Photos are ready 2 to 4 weeks after your session (depending on the season and workload). These images will then be hosted on a password secure gallery for 14 days. All orders must be placed within those 14 days. There is an additional fee to re-host or extend an online gallery. Prints that are ordered from the gallery will take another week or so depending on your order.

Can I see ALL the pictures you took at my session?

I typically shoot 200-500 images during one session and choose the best 30 images to share with you. As an artist and professional, I reserve the right to show only those images which best represent my clients and my standard of work. If you wanted a picture with a particular pose or scenery, each additional requested photo is $45 per file.
